The idol of Ganesh is considered to be a powerful symbol of good luck and success, and it is often worshipped before important events or new beginnings. During the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees bring home Ganesh idols and offer prayers, sweets, and other offerings to seek his blessings. At the end of the festival, the idols are immersed in water, symbolizing the return of Ganesh to his heavenly abode.
Ganesh is often shown with four arms, each of which holds a different object. One arm is usually raised in a gesture of blessing, while another may hold an axe, a noose, or a rosary. His third arm may hold a lotus flower or a modak (a type of sweet), which represents his love for food. The fourth arm may be raised or resting on his thigh.
